To truly understand a place you must either have been born there, or else moved there from far across the world.
However an outsider's perspective of a place - although equally valid - is very different from that of those who grew up there.
Ever since I arrived here from the UK my eye has been constantly drawn upwards - to the brilliant azure blue of the California sky and the the angles and curves of the modern architecture of the new west.
For me, this color perfectly symbolizes the distance between the grey clouds of England and the optimistic light of the West Coast.
